Description

Ayurvedic herb. Found in sub-alpine and alpine regions; Himalayas from Indus to Kumaon.

  • atisine - an intensely bitter alkaloid that is also non-toxic
  • aconitinic acid
  • tannic acid
  • pectous substance
  • starch
  • fat
  • a mixture of oleic, palmitic, stearic glycerides
  • vegetable mucilage
  • sugar
  • ash (2%)
Parts Used

Dried tuberous roots

Remedies For
Roots are bitter, astringent, stomachic, antiperiodic, carminative aphrodisiac, and tonic.

Useful For:

acute inflammations
chronic fevers
convalescing after fever
cough
debility
diarrhea
dysentery
edema
Hemorrhoids
indigestion
liver disorders
vomiting

Uses

Aconitum is a valuable herb for combating debility after fevers. It is an excellent tonic and aphrodisiac. It is used as a remedy for diarrhea, dysentery, acute inflammatory affections, cough, and dyspepsia.

For fever

Several combination remedies using aconium are available.

Aconitum Fever Remedy
This Ayurvedic herbal remedy is useful for fever with diarrhea.

Aconite-Mustaka Home Remedy
This remedy is useful for fever, diarrhea and irritability of the stomach.

Balachatur bhadraka
This Ayurvedic herbal remedy is useful for fever with diarrhea.

Hriveradi
This Ayurvedic herbal remedy is useful for fever with diarrhea.

For children with cough, coryza, fever and vomiting, often the plain powder of the tuberous root mixed with honey is given. Its dosage is dependent on age. The powder is applied to the tongue.

For bilious fever, 1 dr. of aconite root is mixed with 2 drs. of Bonduc nut; the mix is powdered (fine powder).
Dose : 10 to 20 grs.

During intermissions of feverish attacks, the following home remedy is often recommended. Take 1 dr. each of aconite root, chiretta, Cyperus rotundus and Delphinum denudatum. Add 2 drs. of Cocculus cordifolius. Combine and mix well all the ingredients. Make it to a fine powder.
Dose: 1/2 to 1 dr.

Dosage
Tincture (1 in 8). Dose.10 to 30 minims
Decoction
Powder of root, Dose: 10 to 30 grains.
