Description

This ayurvedic herb is found throughout India from the sub-Himalayan forests to Burma (Myanmar).

Fruit, root-bark, leaves, rind, flowers
Constitution

The fruit, root-bark, leaves, rind of the ripe fruit and flowers. Contains a bitter principle, volatile oils, pectin and tannin. The wood-ash is rich in minerals and phosphates.

Remedies For
Action

antibilious, antiparasitical, antipyretic, aphrodisiac, aromatic, alterative, astringent; digestive stimulant, febrifuge, hemostatic, laxative, nutritive, stomachic, stimulant, tonic.

Ripe fruit is sweet, aromatic, cooling, alterative and nutritive. Fresh fruit has laxative properties. Unripe fruit is astringent, digestive, stomachic, and constipative. Pulp is stimulant, antipyretic and antiscorbutic. Fresh juice is bitter and pungent.

  • habitual constipation
  • diabetes
  • dyspepsia
  • chronic diarrhea
  • heart diseases
  • dysentery

Decoction of the root and stem-bark is used in the palpitation of the heart. Leaf-juice is reported to have multifarious medicinal uses, including control of diabetes.
